Update for the week

Here we are in (sunny)??? Southern California. Still wet. This is officially day 6 of rain. Has this ever happened before here? Not sure but if it has I don't remember.

The boys have been in limbo all week about Indian Guides Winter Camp this weekend. Would they go? Not? The camp is about an hour and a half away in the local mountains. The town they stay in has had over 5 feet of snowfall in the past 72 hours. Yesterday the emails started rolling in. It was cancelled, hour later back on, hour later...you get the picture. The back roads up the mountain are open but the main concern was that the big trucks wouldn't be able to get to the camp to deliver food for the boys. Last night as we went to bed it was back on. When we woke up this morning it was officially cancelled. The dads all went into overdrive to find a cabin that could accommodate the 'tribe'. They found one by 9:00am. They all jumped in their cars, picked up all the kids from school and started their adventure.

The drive up there usually takes 2 hours. The last I heard they were 3 1/2 hours into the drive and only about half way there! The roads are crazy! It's slowing them down. As the mom at home, slowing them down is fine with me! The slower, the better on snowy roads!!
UPDATE: just got a call that they arrived safely. 4 1/2 hours.

With all that happening, Sara and I are beginning our Girl's Weekend! I picked her up from school and we've been drawing and making bracelets ever since.

Me through Sara's eyes.

The front and back of one of Sara's drawing from today. If you click it larger you will see: a very large flower, a person, the sun, grass and sky.

Ark: Take Two

Serious rain here! We were drenched today! I don't know if I have ever seen rain in the amounts we saw today. Lightening (okay with me), thunder (NOT ok with me)! Ready for the kicker: we had a tornado warning! Yes, sunny Southern California had tornado warnings! The schools were all on lock down...too funny! It hit in the next city so we didn't get the strongest part but wow we are wet. I think the worst of it is over for today, more expected tomorrow.
(That was Tuesday, it's now Friday and I'm just getting around to finishing the post)

Singing in the rain. Eyes closed and all.

Sara's well check went well. She has actually grown quite a bit since her last birthday. Drum roll please......she weighs 35 lbs! Yippee! Last year at this time she weighed 29lbs. Then this past October when she came down with the Swine Flu she started at 32lbs and went down to 30lbs. Apparently she made up for that little loss in the past 2 months! She wasn't pleased with her two shots but did take them like a trooper. The first one she willingly held her arm out, the second one she protested a smidge. Yea, more than a smidge.

Wanted: Ark

We have rain. I'm not talking rain, I'm talking RAIN! We've been told for the past week that we were in for "Potentially Epic Rain" in our area. It did indeed come for a visit (not sure I would call it epic though) but it has been coming down consistently all day. We enjoy the rain so it was ok by us. We have some flooding issues in the garage but not anything that we haven't dealt with before. The kids still play outside, we still go out and do things, errands etc. It doesn't stop us from everyday life. Iain and the boys even went frisbee golfing while Sara and I were at the gym! I think there was a total of three clothing changes per child throughout the day.

Sara has her 4 year old well check tomorrow. Our pediatrician office does kindergarten shots at this check up. I think they do it this way so the kids don't associate the shots with kindergarten. Well, I'm not comfortable with her having 4 shots in one day not to mention she isn't going to kinder for another year and a half. We're going to go ahead and get two of the shots tomorrow and space the other two out. I let her know today that it would be happening. She was of course less than pleased but I still prefer to let her know ahead of time.

These are from a few weeks ago. Even though it was raining Sara wanted to go to the beach and collect rocks. This is after they got back.

Just because I think the back of her jacket is cute!

Color

This morning as I was driving Sara to school...

Sara: "What are you going to do after you take me to school?"

Me: "I'm going home to color my hair."

Sara: "Really?"

Me: Laughing, "Yes, really."

Sara: "With crayons?"

Cookie baking with Grandma Linda
She actually sat in this box and played for an hour!

Zia Jane set up a 'blind' taste test for the kiddos. Healthy rice krispie treat vs. regular. Regular won unanimously. You can see who the peeker was!

Not a good picture but you can see Sara's Christmas dress

Love those eyes!

How did this handsome lad get so big?!
