Paper Muncher

Teething can be so trying. Crying, fussing, poor little baby feeling discomfort. In our case another symptom is trying to eat everything...except food! This week she doesn't want food at all. Cereal, fruits, veggies...have all been boycotted. I can say it's teething but I'll never know for sure. I can also go another route and say she doesn't like the taste but that's likely untrue as well. It's safe to assume taste isn't an issue here! Here are two papers that I left on the couch downstairs. They made it to the floor via Iain and Sean and Sara took care of the rest. They both started out the same size!

For anyone overly concerned about Sara's safety, I did find all the pieces.

P.S. Fingers seem to be another favorite these days. Beware!!

The wonderful world of baby food

Sara has entered the wonderful and exciting world of new foods! We started with rice cereal, moved on to bananas and apples and are now trying sweet potatoes. She isn't crazy about the whole eating process. The spoon and bowl are her favorite parts. I think she could care less if there was food involved at all! When the spoon goes up it's a race to see if I can get it in her mouth before she grabs it. For the most part she wins! As you can see from the photos she does get some at least close to her mouth! When I do manage to get some in, she does this little spitting thing and it all flies out. Iain and Sean think it's hilarious!

School is out (well almost)

Whoo, what a year! I can't believe how fast it went and at the same time, so much has happened. Kindergarten started and ended, Seany finished his first year of preschool and Sara is now here! How's that for an abbreviated version of the past 9 months!

Tomorrow is Iain T.'s last day of school. It's quite bittersweet. Last September we were all so nervous of what Kindergarten would bring. How would he do? How would I do? Good news is we both did well! Iain made some great friends over the past few months, as have I. I just can't believe how fast it has gone. Iain can now read and write! It's truly amazing what they learn these days. His teacher, who is a fantastic lady, is retiring this year. She was diagnosed with Hip Cancer earlier this year and has been quite a trooper for the kids. She was able to put on her 'teacher face' each and every day, even when it was obvious she didn't want do. Saying goodbye to her has been quite a challenge. She and I both cry everytime we attempt it! Tomorrow being the last day, will be the end of our long and drawn out adieu!

Sean is already in summer mode. Preschool ended last week so he's been enjoying some relaxation time. We loved the school he was at the 2nd half of this year. The teacher was wonderful! He had a friend in the class and the teacher is a friend of ours so he felt very comfortable there. We have decided to put him in another school next year though. As Kindergarten gets closer, Iain and I feel it's important to get Sean into a little more structured environment. After searching high and low we found one that fit all of our requirements (and it's right around the corner!!). He's very excited about his "4 year old" school. We're hoping it will be as wonderful as the "3 year old" one this year.

In September when school started I was 5 months pregnant, now Little Miss Sara is 5 months old! Yikes! How's that for a big change?? She's now rolling everywhere, starting to sit on her own and eating solids. Changes, changes! I could go on about all that she is doing and how wonderful she is but I'll save it for another post. She's on my lap right now trying to eat the keyboard!!

Here's to a fun summer! Cheers!

Cooling off

This past weekend was a scorcher! Not sure of the exact temperature but it was somewhere in the high 80's here at our house! As soon as the boys woke up Sunday morning, they were asking to go to the pool. Sounded like a great idea to us, then we thought Sara might like it too. Well my goodness she certainly did! It was almost as if she melted into the water. She didn't blink or flinch at all when we put her in. The water is heated but it's not all that warm. I'm not sure the temp, I can ask my water expert of a hubby and get back to you on that one. Anyway, as all bathing beauties that came before her, she needed the proper gear for her big day...floppy hat and cute swimsuit. For anyone freaking out right now, yes she was lubed up in sunscreen! We started with her feet on the steps and slowly took her all the way in. I would definitely call her first pool day quite a success. It's safe to assume there will be many more water days this summer. (I even have two other very cute bathing suits she can wear!)

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a...

...tooth! Yippee! This past week has been fun filled for Little Missy too, not just Iain T. In a matter of 1 week Sara has starting rolling both ways and got a tooth!

Her first feat was rolling from stomach to back. It was more of a "get me off my tummy flop" but we'll take it! Then less than a week later she figured out how to roll the other way too! Guess she's a genius just like her big brothers!! Now she can't get enough of her new past time. Ironically, she now loves to be on her tummy. Maybe it's the fact that she can change positions on her own? Who knows.

On to the tooth. Monday night she was up from 12-1am which is very unusual for her. The next morning I looked in her mouth and saw a little white line, the tell tale sign that a tooth is coming. By Wednesday morning the little bugger was through! You'd think she won the Noble Peace Prize I was so excited! But as we all know she has a few years until she wins that!!

I've tried to get a picture of the tooth but it's a little camera shy. I'll post a picture as soon as I can get one. Until then I'll leave you with a picture of her sucking on her fingers, another favorite past time.

Happy Birthday Iain T.

Well our big/little guy is now officially 6 years old! I can't believe it, sniff-sniff! We celebrated many times over the past week. I'm sure he's going to grow up thinking people have birthday "weeks" instead of just birth "days"!

He was asking to have a Star Wars party this year but we weren't sure if we wanted to go the big party route. We did give in (shocker) and ended up taking 5 of his kindergarten friends bowling. I have to say it was lots of fun! The whole 6 year old boy dynamic was a crack up! We had a Darth Vadar cake that read "May the Force be with you Iain"!! Love it!

On the big day, we took cookies to his class so they could have a little celebration there also. As most of you know, I'm all about the birthdays. I think they are just the greatest thing ever and I'm definitely conditioning the kids to feel the same way. Anyway, turns out his bday was on the same day as music class. His music teacher had the class sing Happy Birthday 3 different times to Iain. They had a fast version, a slow version and then a version with some cha cha cha's in it. Last but not least they sang "For he's a jolly good fellow". Nothing like a little attention, huh?!?! He did run out of class that day with a special crown on his head and a smile from ear to ear! Priceless!

It was a fantastic week and best of all, Iain felt very special. For now we will sit on the floor, play Star Wars Legos and enjoy this new adventure that is called "a 6 year old"!
